Melonbike is a full service bicycle store. This means that we provide a wide range of repair, installation, and fitting services to our customers. Below is a list of all of our services, their pricing and turn around time. Send a message to the service department if you have any questions or as always, you can call or stop by the shop.

Services


Estimates and Consultations

Custom Work Assessment  – $30

Description: This service is an estimate of the labor and parts costs associated with custom services or services not explicitly listed in this guide. The charge for this service will be applied to the total bill if the customer chooses to do the work. The service charge is not refundable if the customer chooses not to do the work.

Tune Up Services


Basic Tune Up –  $55

Description: This service Includes shift tuning, brake tuning, minor wheel truing, hub bearing adjustment, headset adjustment, bottom bracket adjustment, moving part lubrication, chain lubrication, chain measurement and fastener torque setting.

Add On – Drive Train Cleaning  – $20

Description: Disassemble and clean the crankset, chain, cassette/freewheel and derailleur. Then reassemble and lubricate.

Advanced Tune Up –  $85

Description: This service Includes shift tuning, brake tuning, minor wheel truing, hub bearing adjustment, headset adjustment, bottom bracket adjustment, moving part lubrication, chain lubrication, chain measurement,  fastener torque setting, drivetrain cleaning, wheel tensioning, cable lubrication.

Vintage Tune Up – $75

Description: This service Includes shift tuning, brake tuning, minor wheel truing, hub bearing adjustment, headset adjustment, bottom bracket adjustment, moving part lubrication, chain lubrication, chain measurement,  fastener torque setting, wheel tensioning, cable lubrication. Plus all of the extra attention needed by vintage bikes.

Overhaul $155

Description: This service Includes a complete tear down, clean and reassembly of the bike. All systems will be tuned, all fasteners torqued, and all moving parts lubricated. All bearings will be rebuilt or replaced.

Optimization Services


Optimization services are special tune ups just for high performance bicycles.

Mountain Bike Optimization – $250

Description: This service Includes a complete tear down, clean and reassembly of the bike. All systems will be tuned, all fasteners torqued, and all moving parts lubricated. All bearings will be rebuilt or replaced (if needed). The bike will have all cables and housings replaced and fitted to optimal length. Brake hoses will be either replaced or resized to optimal length. Brake fluid will be added and overcharged to allow for optimal braking. Wheels will be trued and spokes will be tensioned to optimal tension. Superfluous components or fasteners will be marked for removal, with customer permission. Tubeless sealant will be replaced and tires will be reset, cleaned and pressured. Any wearable parts can be replaced during this service at no additional charge.

Road Bike Optimization – $250

Description: This service includes a complete tear down, clean and reassembly of the bike. All systems will be tuned, all fasteners torqued, and all moving parts lubricated. All bearings will be rebuilt or replaced(if needed). The bike will have all cables and housings replaced and fitted to optimal length. Brake hoses will be either replaced or resized to optimal length. Brake fluid will be added and overcharged to allow for optimal braking. Rear Dropout Alignment – $15

Description: Using a Dropout Alignment tool, the rear dropouts on the frame will be realigned to their correct position.

Frame Replacement Services

Frame Replacement – Single Speed/BMX – $60

Description: Remove all components from a frame and install them on a new frame.

Frame Replacement – Road, CX, Touring – $120

Description: Remove all components from a frame and install them on a new frame.

Frame Replacement – Mountain Hardtail –  $120

Description: Remove all components from a frame and install them on a new frame.

Frame Replacement – Mountain Full Suspension – $150

Description: Remove all components from a frame and install them on a new frame. Including rear shock.

Frame Swap – Single Speed/BMX – $100

Description: Remove all components from one complete bike and either install them on a new frame or on another complete bike.

Frame Swap – Road, CX, Touring – $200

Description: Remove all components from one complete bike and either install them on a new frame or on another complete bike.

Frame Swap – Mountain Hardtail – $200

Description: Remove all components from one complete bike and either install them on a new frame or on another complete bike.

Fork and Headset Services


Fork and Headset services are categorized by Adjustments, Replacements and Installations.

Services not offered: Head tube Shaving/Shaping, Steerer tube Tap or Rethread, Steerer tube replacement.

 

Fork and Headset Adjustment Services

Fork Dropout Alignment – $15

Description: Using a special tool, the dropouts on the fork will be aligned.

Fork Brake Post Mount Re-Tap – $20

Description: Using a metric tap, the Post Mount holes on a fork will be retapped.

Fork Steerer Tube Sizing – $20

Description: Cut and finish a steerer tube to either a minimum size or a size specified by the customer. 

Headset Adjustment – $5

Description: Loosen the stem and adjust the tension on the Headset bearings then set the stem clamp bolts to the manufacturer’s torque specifications.   

Fork and Headset Replacement Services

Headset Replacement – Integrated – $20

Description: Remove the old headset components and replace them with new components.

Notes: An Integrated Headset is one that does not require the installation of external bearing cups. The frame instead has built in bearing seats.

Headset Replacement – Semi-Integrated/Standard $40

Description: Remove the old headset components and replace them with new components.

Notes: Semi-Integrated and Standard Headsets require Cups to be replaced.

Headset Loose Ball Bearing Repack/Replace – $25

Description: Remove the loose caged ball bearings, clean out old grease then replace with new bearings and new grease.

Fork Replacement – $60

Description: Remove old fork, cut new steerer match old fork or frame specifications then install new fork.

Fork and Headset Replacement – $65

Description: Remove old fork, cut new steerer match old fork or frame specifications then install new fork. Replace the old headset components with new.

Fork and Headset Installation Services

Description: Install a new headset on a frame without a headset.

Wheel Truing – up to 36 Spokes – $15

Description: Adjust the tension of the spokes to true the wheel and set the tension of each spoke.

Wheel Truing – more than 36 Spokes – $60/Hour

Description: Adjust the tension of the spokes to true the wheel and set the tension of each spoke.

Note: By the hour services are prorated at $1 per minute.

Hub Bearing Adjustment – $5

Description: Adjust the position of outer lock nuts to correct setting to ensure smooth hub operation.

Risks: Damaged hub components can prevent the hub from rotating correctly.

Wheel, Hub and Spoke Replacement Services

Wheel Replacement – Front Non-Tubeless – $10

Description: Remove a damaged or old wheel. Move tire, tube, rotor(if present) and rim strip to new wheel. Install new wheel on frame.

Wheel Replacement – Front Tubeless – $30

Description: Remove a damaged or old wheel. Re-tape, move tire, valve and rotor(if present) to new wheel then add sealant. Install new wheel on frame.

Wheel Replacement – Rear Non-Tubeless – $15

Description: Remove a damaged or old wheel. Move tire, tube, rotor(if present), cassette/freewheel and rim strip to new wheel. Install new wheel on frame.

Wheel Replacement – Rear Tubeless – $35

Description: Remove a damaged or old wheel. Re-tape, move tire, valve, cassette/freewheel and rotor(if present) to new wheel then add sealant. Install new wheel on frame.

Spoke Replacement – up to 6 Spokes – $25

Description: De-tension wheel then replace broken or damaged spokes. Re-tension and true wheel.

Hub Bearing Replacement – Front – Loose – $15

Description: Remove old bearings and grease then replace with new bearings(if needed) and new grease.

Hub Bearing Replacement – Rear – Loose – $20

Description: Remove old bearings and grease then replace with new bearings(if needed) and new grease.

Hub Bearing Replacement – Front- Cartridge – $10

Description: Remove old bearings then replace with new bearings.

Hub Bearing Replacement – Rear – Cartridge – $15

Description: Remove old bearings then replace with new bearings.

Hub Bearing Replacement – Rear – Coaster Brake – $30

Description: Remove old bearings and grease then replace with new bearings(if needed) and new grease.

Wheel, Hub and Spoke Building Services

Wheel Build – Up to 36 Spokes – Standard Parts – $60

Description: Assemble, tension, true and stress relieve the new wheel.

Notes: This build service assumes the customer wants standard parts and a single color spoke.

Wheel Build – 36 Spokes – Non-Standard Parts – $60/hour

Description: Assemble, tension, true and stress relieve the new wheel.

Notes: This build service can use non-standard parts and multi-colored spokes. By the hour services are prorated at $1 per minute.

Tire Inflation – $0

Description: Add pressure to a tire.

Tire and Tube Replacement Services

Tire or Tube Replacement – Standard – $5

Description:Remove old tire or tube, install new tire or tube then inflate to recommended pressure.

Tire Replacement – Tubeless – $10

Description:Remove old tire, install new, add sealant then inflate to recommended pressure.This service assumes the customer will not be replacing the valve or tape.

Note: Sealant is always lost with this service and will have to be replaced.

Tire and Tube Installation Services

Tire or Tube Installation – Standard – $5

Description: Install a new tire or tube on a wheel that does not currently have one.

Tire Installation – Tubeless – $20

Description: Install Tape, Valve, Tire and Sealant on a wheel that does not currently have a tire installed on it.

Note: This service is required if the customer needs a valve or tape replaced.

Tubeless Conversion – $25

Description: Install Tape, Valve, Tire and Sealant on a wheel that currently has a standard tire and tube installed on it.

Tire Liner Installation – $10

Description: Install or replace a tire liner in a functioning wheel that currently has a tire and tube installed on it.

Solid Tube Installation – $20

Description: Install a solid foam tube.

Description: Lubricate and adjust a single brake system to correct specifications.

Note: A wheel that is out of true will reduce the effectiveness of a brake adjustment. Make sure to check the wheel for true and add that service if not.

Brake Adjustment – Hydraulic Disc – $10

Description: Adjust and add fluid to a single brake system.

Rotor Truing – $10

Description: Using a Truing Fork, adjust a slightly warped brake rotor back to true.

Brake System Replacement Services

Brake Lever Replacement – Cable – $15

Description: Remove old then install new single brake lever.

Brake Lever Replacement – Hydraulic – $20

Description: Remove old then install new single brake lever. Then bleed and adjust the system.

Brake Caliper Replacement – Cable – $20

Description: Remove old then install new single brake caliper.

Brake Caliper Replacement – Hydraulic – $30

Description: Remove old then install new single brake caliper. Then bleed the brake system.

Brake Pad Replacement – $15

Description: Remove old then install new brake pads on a single brake caliper. This service includes full adjustment of the brake system.

Brake Cable Replacement – $5

Description: Remove old then install new brake cable.

Note: This service will include labor for replacing the cable if done at the same time.

Drivetrain Wear Inspection – $5

Description: Check the Bottom Bracket, the Chain, the Cassette or Freewheel, the Crankset and the Chain Ring(s) for wear and proper adjustment then report findings to customer.

Note: This service requires some disassembly so there is is charge for it.

Chain Inspection – $5

Description: Examine every link on a chain for damage or wear.

Note: This service requires some disassembly so there is is charge for it.

Drivetrain Adjustment Services

Bottom Bracket Adjustment – $10

Description: Adjust the Crankset and Bottom Bracket to the correct settings.

Chainring Bolt Adjustment – $10

Description: Adjust the torque of each Chainring Bolt to the correct settings.

Chain Refitting – $10

Description: Remove or add links to a chain to achieve the correct length.

Cassette or Freewheel Adjustment – $10

Description: Adjust the threaded tension of either a lockring on a Cassette or the Freewheel.

Front Derailleur Adjustment – $10

Description: Adjust the position and tolerances of the front derailleur, lubricate its pivots and set the cable position and tension as well as the shifter to the correct specifications.

Rear Derailleur Adjustment – $10

Description: Adjust the position and tolerances of the rear derailleur, lubricate its pivots and set the cable position and tension as well as the shifter to the correct specifications.

Derailleur Hanger Adjustment – $10

Description: Using a special tool, the alignment of the rear derailleur hanger will be set to the correct position.

Full Derailleur Adjustment – $20

Description: Adjust the position and tolerances of the derailleurs, lubricate its pivots and set the cable position and tension as well as the shifter to the correct specifications.

Description: Install a new rear derailleur on a frame without one. This service does not include shifter or cable install but will include tuning if a shifter and cable are already installed.

Derailleur Hanger Installation – $5

Description:Install a new hanger on a frame without one.

Shifter Cable Installation – $5

Description: Install a new cable on a system without one.

Shifter Housing Installation  – $10

Description: Install a new cable housing on a system without one. This service includes the labor for installing a shift cable if done at the same time.

Drivetrain Optimization Services

Shifting Optimization – $40

Description: Re-cable the entire shifting system making sure to trim the housings to their absolute minimum size. This service will also include optimised shift tuning, cable and housing lubrication, bare minimum cable tips, and derailleur pivot lubrication and cleaning.

Note: This service is pointless if the customer chooses low quality cables and housing for the re-cable.

Description: Remove all components and accessories from an old handlebar, replace the handlebar, then reinstall all components and accessories.

Handlebar Replacement – MTB – $30

Description: Remove all components and accessories from an old handlebar, replace the handlebar, then reinstall all components and accessories.

Handlebar Replacement – Road/Tri/TT – $40

Description: Remove all components and accessories from an old handlebar, replace the handlebar, then reinstall all components and accessories. Old handlebar tape will not survive this service. This service INCLUDES the labor for wrapping the bars.

Handlebar Replacement – Special – $50

Description: Remove all components and accessories from an old handlebar, replace the handlebar, then reinstall all components and accessories.

Note: Use this service for customers with bikes that have non-standard handlebars with more than just standard components and accessories mounted to the bar. An E-bike is one example.

Stem Replacement – with Faceplate – $10

Description: Remove the old stem and replace it with new.

Note: Use this service for customers with stems that have a faceplate, meaning that the bar can be removed from the stem without removing components from the bar.

Stem Replacement – without Faceplate – $20

Description: Remove the old stem and replace it with new.

Note: Use this service for customers with stems that do not have a faceplate, meaning components must be removed from the bar in order to replace the stem.

Remote Replacement – Dropper Post – Cable – $20

Description: Remove the old remote and replace it with new.

Description: Install new fenders on a bike.

Rear or Front Rack Installation – $20

Description: Install a new front or rear rack.

 

Custom Accessory Installation – $60/hour

Description: Install a custom accessory or accessory not found on the service list. By the hour services are pro-rated at $1/min.

Fitting Services


Basic Fitting – $20

Description: A basic bike fit including saddle position, seatpost height, handlebar pitch and cockpit positioning.

Complete Fitting – $60

Description: Bike fit performed in a bike trainer. Fit includes saddle position, seatpost height, handlebar pitch, cockpit positioning and cleat positioning. This service can take up to 1 hour and the customer must be wearing all riding gear intended to be used for daily rides.

Cleaning Services


Drivetrain Cleaning – $20

Description: Disassemble the drivetrain, clean it then reassemble and lubricate.

Bike Wash – $35

Description: Disassemble the drivetrain, clean it then reassemble and lubricate. Then wash and dry the entire bike.

Service Policy


Melonbike is not responsible for loss or damage to vehicle or articles left in/on vehicle in case of fire, theft or any other cause beyond our control or for any delays caused by unavailability of parts or delays in parts shipments by supplier or transporter. Any bicycle received by Melonbike for the purpose of repair, is bound by a mechanics lien for the cost of said repair. The repair bill must be paid in full by the customer before the bicycle can be released. Once the repair service is finished, Melonbike will attempt to notify the customer that the repair is complete. It is the responsibility of the customer to provide Melonbike with current contact information. The customer is responsible for notifying Melonbike of any changes to their contact information prior to repair completion. Repair bills that are not settled within 14 days of notification will be subject to a $1 per day storage fee. Storage fees will continue to accrue for up to 60 days. Repair bills that are not settled within 60 days of notification will be considered abandoned and any bicycle or parts associated with the repair bill will then become property of Melonbike. Melonbike can then sell said property to cover the cost of the abandoned bill.

Service Failure


Some services offered by Melonbike have a probability of failure due to the condition of the component that may result in a component being ruined or destroyed. In the event that a component is destroyed while attempting service, Melonbike is not responsible for the cost of the destroyed component and the customer is still responsible for the charge associated with the service. The services that have a chance of failure are clearly marked with a Warning Message in their service description. Customers will be informed ahead of time that the service has a possibility of failure.

Services Not Offered


Melonbike does not offer metalworking or painting services. We can not and will not be equipped to deal with such services as frame building, weld repair, composite repair, painting, or decal application. Please do not ask for these services as they are not and never will be offered. Melonbike does not offer pick up or drop off services for customers. Customers are responsible for delivering their bicycle to Melonbike for service and retrieving it once service is completed.

Estimates and Consultations


Consultations and Estimates can be provided to customers who need custom services or installations. Estimates are a charged service, the price for which is listed in the service list. Estimates are only an educated summary of possible cost and time and in no way guarantee a price or time frame for custom work. Should the customer decide to have the work completed, the cost of the estimate will be credited toward the cost of the work. Should the customer choose not to have the work completed, the cost of the estimate is kept by Melonbike and can not be refunded.
